Smoke detectors

Starting 1 July 2022, the Netherlands will require a smoke detector on every residential floor and in enclosed spaces that are part of an escape route. The Building Decree will be updated to reflect this change, making it a legal requirement. This applies to all homes, whether rented or owned.

Smoke detectors are mandatory from:
- 1 July 2022
- On every residential floor
- In both owner-occupied and rented homes
- In both existing buildings and new constructions
- In enclosed spaces used as escape routes
